Toned, edgeworn, one horizontal crease at center. THESE ISSUES ARE UNUSUAL AS THE FIRST PAGE OF EACH ISSUE PROCLAIM THAT BOTH RUTHERFORD B. HAYES AND SAMUEL J. TILDEN WON THE 1876 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION. This election was hugely controversial, with disputed election results in several states, which was settled by a special congressional commission and was narrowly certified by the House of Representatives, in Hayes’ favor.
