Silent Mora (Louis McCord). “Silent” Mora Chinese Sticks. Boston, 1953. Cords running through each bamboo stick react in sympathy —as one tassel is pulled, the other cord retracts, and vice versa, even though the strings are not connected. Hand-made and decorated by Mora, both signed, dated (Oct. 14, 1953), and inscribed with proverbs. Length 12”. Original instructions. Very good. On the flat side of each stick, Mora has written two proverbs: “More are drowned in the bowl than in the sea,” and “Beard and mantle do not make a philosopher.” In his golden years, Mora, living in a retirement home in Boston, crafted a handful of magic props and carried on correspondence with a variety of fellow magicians.
