[CRIME]. A mugshot photograph of a known Chicago mob boss. 2 April 1980. An original face and profile view photo of Joseph (“Joey”) John Aiuppa (1907–1997), leader of the Chicago Outfit from 1971 until his skimming conviction in 1986. After rising in the ranks of the notorious Chicago Outfit, Aiuppa was in charge of operating several gambling establishments, managing a manufacturer of illegal slot machines, and later becoming in charge of the Cicero district; the highest–earning neighborhood for decades, dating back to Al Capone who headquartered in the area while he was in command. After the death of Sam Giancana, Aiuppa became boss of the Outfit which grew stronger ties to its Las Vegas casinos under his command. These ties to Las Vegas were later the basis for Martin Scorcese’s 1995 film Casino.
