YOSHIDA, Hiroshi (1876-1950). Bamboo Wood. 1939. Oban yoko-e woodblock print on paper. Matted. Framed, 18 ¾ x 13 ¼”. Sunning to image. SIGNED and titled in margins in Japanese and in English. Not examined out of frame. Hiroshi Yoshida was widely considered to be one of the greatest Japanese artists of the shin-hanga style. He became renowned in the west for his images of non-Japanese monuments and landmarks in the traditional Japanese woodblock style, among them the Taj Mahal, the Grand Canyon, and the Swiss Alps. Today his work can be found in numerous museums around the world including the Portland Art Museum, the University of Michigan Museum of Art, and the British Museum.
